New England’s Best Apple Crisp

“This is the very best apple crisp! Always gets rave reviews!”

6 apples, peeled and sliced
3/4 c. flour, sifted
3/4 c. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
6 T. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. nuts, chopped
2 tsp. lemon juice
vanilla ice cream

Preheat oven to 350°. Place sliced apples and 1/2 of the sugar in bowl. Add the spices and lemon juice. Toss lightly and pour into a buttered 8”x 8” dish. Blend the remaining sugar, flour, salt and butter to a crumbly consistency. Add the nuts and sprinkle over apple mixture. Bake 45 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is nicely browned. Serve warm with ice cream. You can double the ingredients and then use a 9”x 13” pan.
